When you ride your bicycle you should consider cycle clothes and gear that will not only bring you comfort but also keep you safe. Consider where you will be riding. What terrain will you be biking through and what is the climate like? Make sure to check the weather before you leave and take the appropriate clothing. Below are some cycle clothes to consider, paying particular attention to in order to make your ride more pleasurable. When you buy a helmet make sure that it is it approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and that it is the right size. Everyone's head it shaped differently so try on different helmets until you find one that is comfortable. Wear the helmet level on your head and adjust straps and buckles for a proper fit. When you are done adjusting your helmet shake your head to make sure that it does not bounce around. It is one of the most important items that you can purchase and the goal is to protect your head and in turn prevent brain injury. Some types of apparel and gear to consider are: Gloves
Socks
Bike shorts
Jersey
Jacket
Shoes When purchasing rain gear Make sure you are aware of the difference between waterproof and water resistant. To be considered water proof it must be made of water proof fabric and the seams must be sealed. Water resistant is made of material that repels water but is not water proof. Just be aware that there is a huge distinction. Gloves are important if you are mountain biking more so than road cycling for protection of the hand if you fall. Socks must be a good quality which takes the water and sweat away from the feet but allows breathing too. Always carry a spare pair of socks with you in case the first pair get wet as it can make the difference between a comfortable ride or an agonizingly painful ride if you ride in wet socks. Bike shorts are usually made of elastane material to be tight but not restrictive. They are tight to control the muscles in the legs and keep them warm as well as being able to breathe and take sweat away from the area. Bike jerseys can be long or short sleeved but they are always of good quality material and breathable as well as being water proof they are made in such a way to make riding comfortable and cool to the rider but also keeping the rider warm and dry. Shoes are an optional item really but once you have worn them you will never go without them again. Cycling shoes are designed to work the high tech pedals that are found on modern bikes so you might not have the same success wearing cycling shoes on your old Schwinn as you would wearing them on a state of the art titanium frame racing bike. There are four main kinds of cycling shoes that are made specifically for different types of biking
